8. Check your machine's settings before first use

Before starting your first machining operation, take a few minutes to check your machine's main settings.

Although every machine is inspected at the factory before shipping, transportation may slightly affect certain adjustments.

Depending on the type of machine, we recommend checking:

  • the parallel alignment of fences and guides;
  • the 90° and 45° stops;
  • the alignment of the tables;
  • the drive belt tension, where adjustable;
  • the tightness of locking handles and adjustment knobs;
  • the smooth operation of adjustment handwheels.

9. Carry out your first machining operation on a piece of scrap wood

Your first test should never be performed on the workpiece intended for your project.

Always use a piece of scrap wood to check:

  • the quality of the cut;
  • the accuracy of the machine settings;
  • the depth of cut;
  • the correct operation of the fences and guides;
  • the workpiece feed system, where fitted.

Always begin with a shallow cut and gradually increase the cutting depth if necessary.


10. Always use suitable cutting tools

Even the best woodworking machine cannot produce high-quality results if fitted with worn or unsuitable cutting tools.

Before each use, check:

  • the condition of the saw blades;
  • the sharpness of planer knives;
  • the condition of carbide inserts;
  • that all cutting tools are securely tightened;
  • that the recommended spindle or blade speed is respected.

A dull cutting tool places additional strain on the motor, reduces the quality of the finish and may also become a safety hazard.


11. Always work with a suitable dust extraction system

Dust extraction is not only intended to keep your workshop clean.

It also helps to:

  • efficiently remove wood chips;
  • improve machining quality;
  • prevent clogging;
  • reduce tool wear;
  • improve operator safety.

Whenever possible, connect your machine to a dust extractor with an airflow suitable for your machine.


12. Stop the machine immediately if you notice anything unusual

A new machine should never behave abnormally.

Stop the machine immediately if you notice:

  • excessive vibration;
  • metallic or unusual noises;
  • a burning smell;
  • smoke;
  • a significant loss of power;
  • the circuit breaker or overload protection repeatedly tripping;
  • a safety device that no longer operates correctly.

Never continue using the machine hoping that the problem will disappear by itself. Continuing to operate a faulty machine may worsen the damage and create a safety risk.
