The ED400FD uses variable speed control. Unstable speed, lack of response to the control or abnormal operation should be diagnosed methodically. Before concluding that the board or potentiometer is faulty, inspect accessible wiring, connectors, the selector and the other control components. For electronic parts, the original reference, connector layout and machine version are particularly important.
