Using the Tool Rest

Position the tool rest as close as practical to the workpiece while maintaining sufficient clearance to prevent contact with the rotating workpiece.

Before starting the lathe, make sure that the tool rest is securely locked in position and rotate the workpiece by hand to check that it cannot touch the tool rest.
