The recoil starter for Scheppach, Parkside and Woodstar lawn mowers – Ref. 5911244072 is designed to enable manual starting of the lawn mower's petrol engine.

By pulling the starter handle, the rope activates a mechanism that rotates the engine to initiate starting.

The integrated recoil spring then allows the rope to automatically rewind into its housing, preparing the starter for the next use.

A recoil starter in good condition ensures efficient engine engagement, reliable starting and convenient operation of the lawn mower.

It is an essential component of the starting system and must function correctly to allow the petrol engine to start.

Important information about recoil starters

A recoil starter breaking is generally not caused by the starter itself. It is designed to turn an engine that must be able to rotate freely during starting.

If the engine offers abnormal resistance, the force exerted on the rope and starter mechanism becomes excessive and may cause the rope, pulley, pawls or other internal components to break.

Common causes of recoil starter failure

• Starter incompatible with the machine: the same machine model may be equipped with different engines and starters depending on its exact reference and manufacturing date.

• Engine seized or difficult to turn: seized piston, damaged bearing or another mechanical problem.

• Insufficient oil or inadequate lubrication, which may cause the engine to seize.

• Excessive accumulation of oil or fuel in the cylinder, which may cause hydraulic lock (hydrolock).

• Decompression or valve problems on a 4-stroke engine, making the engine unusually difficult to start.

• Repeated attempts to start the engine when it offers resistance or is seized.

• Pulling the rope violently or all the way to its limit, which may damage the mechanism.

Before replacing a broken recoil starter

If your recoil starter has broken shortly after installation, it is essential to check that the engine rotates freely before fitting a new starter.

Replacing the starter without identifying the cause of abnormal engine resistance may result in immediate failure of the replacement part.

Check compatibility carefully

Before purchasing, always check the exact model reference and manufacturing date shown on your machine's identification plate.

The same model may be fitted with different engines and recoil starters depending on its manufacturing period. A visual resemblance between two starters does not guarantee compatibility.

The warranty does not apply when the breakage results from incompatibility with the machine, engine resistance or seizure, or abnormal mechanical stress on the recoil starter.
